Car rental Fee To Increase At Pittsburgh International Airport

Pittsburgh International Airport will charge an additional fee to car rental companies following in the footsteps of 106 other US airports. Consequently airport car rental fee will increase by USD 3 a day per car. The decision comes after Allegheny County Airport Authority board members unanimously voted on increasing the car rental fee to help fund much needed garage improvements. With the addition of this 'customer facility charge,' car rental fee will generate about USD 3.75 million annually for the garage work expected to cost over USD 20 million.

Jim Gill, the airport authority's chief financial officer says, this addition to the car rental fee is being charged as a user fee rather than to airlines operating from the airport because it seems unfair to pass on charges to travelers not renting a car. It will be added to the 11.11% concession fee, per day USD 2 County and USD 2 state surcharge and the 7% state and county sales tax.
