Over the last ten years in Australia driving holidays have been on the decline. There are a number of factors contributing to an overall reduction in domestic travel, including the fact that younger Australians are now more inclined to save their money for overseas trips. Also, younger Australians have been taking fewer weekend trips, and when they do travel domestically they are more likely to fly.
Since the Australian dollar is currently above parity with the US dollar, overseas travel has become more appealing then at any time in recent history. Discount domestic airfares have also made flying a more attractive option for local trips. The global financial crisis and petrol costs going through the roof have meant that some people are foregoing travel of any sort, and the recent floods and cyclones in Queensland have had a significant impact on travel in that region.

As if the price of gasoline were not high enough for everyday drivers in the US, it has now rocketed above $9 a gallon for those who don't pay ahead of time and return their car rental without a full tank. This means that Hertz customers who were renting a Ford Club Wagon, for example, with a 35 gallon fuel tank would owe Hertz $325.15 for gas if they returned the wagon with a nearly empty tank and hadn't prepaid for the gas.
Those who pay ahead of time for a tank of gas from Hertz and other car rental companies, though , may find that the per-gallon price is actually cheaper than at many local gas stations. Still, it's questionable whether renters who prepay will actually save money by doing so, as prepayment will only benefit renters who return vehicles with a nearly empty gas tank. Those who return vehicles with a substantial amount of gas in the tank are not credited for it.

While driving holidays to New York can be enjoyable for some, it may be more convenient and faster for other travelers to simply get there by plane. A new campaign to promote tourism to Manhattan should inspire even more holiday makers to book cheap flights to New York. The Get More NYC: Lower Manhattan campaign makes its debut on June 1 and it will be getting lots of attention in the international press. The purpose of the campaign is to demonstrate how Lower Manhattan has been thoroughly revitalized ten years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the new initiative, saying that a crucial concern after the 9/11 terrorist attacks was that Lower Manhattan would turn into a ghost town. Ten years later it's clear that these concerns were overblown, as people from around the country and the world have contributed to the area's revival. The campaign will feature a selection of brand new tour itineraries for visitors to enjoy.
